Our Auxiliary was formed in May ‘56
With 20 charter members, a group of young chicks.
The years rolled on without a doubt
Some moved away and others dropped out.
Our coffee hours started in Jan. ‘57
Our customers thought they were sent from heaven
A piece of pie and coffee, only 35 cents.
Then inflation set in, that price made no sense
So we raised it up to 50 cents.
We catered to birthdays, weddings and anniversaries too
For these events we had a good crew.
We sewed pyjamas for vets and bed jackets too
And knitted slippers, we did quite a few.
We did auction sales for Cooper and Crow
We’d load up our trucks and away we would go.
Running out of wieners meant a trip back to town
For one of our men, they never let us down.
We marched with the Legion boys on parade
On gravel streets, before they were paved.
We fed the Boosters for 22 years
And when we quit, those old boys were in tears.
We spent hours and hours making flowers for floats
That we made for the August parade.
Our bursary has helped many students go to college
To further their studies and gained some more knowledge.
The Veterans come down from the Belcher each year
For a good hot meal and glass of cold beer
Oh, we have been busy for the last 50 years.
Now this saga is about to end
Our hair has changed color
Our knees won’t bend
Our backs our lame
And our feet are sore
But we’ll carry on the same as before.
Now will you pick up your glass
A toast
To success in the future and the years that are past.
