Supporting our Troops

Don't forget the troops that will not be home this Holiday season

Christmas in Afghanistan

Canada has seen many wars, lost many lives all in the cause for Peace and Freedom.

I am 48, and have been fortunate to have never lived through a war. Now I listen and learn about them through the eyes of a "Veteran", The stories, a smile of a memory that fades away to tears. Today we think of our current serving members and our hearts goes out to each and everyone of them and their families as does  millions of other Canadians who hope they make it home safe.

In modern times (today) we see, hear, learn in real time what these men and women are doing in other country's and many of us are finding ways of supporting our current serving members.

Author Unknown: "Wear Red on Fridays" This started as a email message sent out shortly after the 911 incident in the U.S.A.,  it has since escalated into a very successful campaign across the world. The Royal Canadian Legion endorses this and encourages all legions to get involved and show our current serving members that we are in fact thinking of them always. Canadian Forces members have always been  to serve Canada by defending its values, interests and sovereignty at home and abroad.

Today there are approximately:

Our current serving members are here to protect our sovereign and Country.

What is a "Veteran"?

A veteran is any person who is serving or who has honourably served in the Armed Forces of Canada, the Commonwealth or its wartime allies: or who has served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime. " or  As for VAC, they introduced a definition of veteran in 2001 which reads as follows:

VAC and the Department of National Defence (DND) have extended veteran status to former Canadian Forces members and Reserve Force members who: meet DND's military occupational classification requirements (MOC qualified); and have been released from the Forces with an honourable discharge.

I tried to stop watching the News as every time I turned it on, the shocking words repeat themselves " Another soldier dies and many wounded", I now can imagine what the families felt when their sons and daughters went off to fight or aid in foreign lands, late nights listening to crackling voices over the radio, waiting for news of their loved ones.

Daily people send me information, some old, some current and the one that touched me so deeply was the tribute to our current fallen heroes.

Keep the torch burning for all Serving Members Past and Present, remember the past and look to the future.

Your comments are greatly appreciated and its possible in the Future we can incorporate a page for our young Serving men and women to view and post back to us. Email me

Thank you to all of our Veterans, young and old.
